In Tempelhof-Schöneberg, March has belonged to women for many years. For four weeks, the event series Frauenmärz is dedicated to topics and issues that move women.
This year’s kick-off took place on March 3, 2023 on the stage of the Varité Salon at the ufaFabrik Berlin. The musical highlight of the evening was the Vocal Consort of the Berlin Girls Choir, conducted by Sabine Wüsthoff, with a multi-faceted repertoire of modern, classical and folk songs, including the anthem of the English women’s movement, “The March of the Women,” composed by Ethel Smyth in 1910. The song was first performed in London on January 21, 1911, and again at a women’s suffrage event on March 23, 1911, after which it spread rapidly throughout England.
The keynote speaker for the opening evening was journalist, net activist and author Kübra Gümüşav. Fun and entertainment were provided by an all-female stage show by comedienne Batuschka together with artist Viola Schley. The event was hosted by journalist and TikToker Leonie Schöler, who otherwise educates about history and current political events on her channel.
A strong evening with strong women who are not to be overlooked!
