Every year, the Plenipotentiary of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) hosts its annual reception around St John’s Day. High-ranking guests and discussion partners from politics and society are invited. At the centre of the ceremony is the speech of the Council President, which usually relates to a current topic. The ceremony is held in the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt and is attended by around 600 guests.
The Vocal Consort of the Berlin Girls Choir provides musical accompaniment to the event.
This year, the St. John’s Reception will take place on “Day of Music”, which in 2023 will have the motto “Music is Peace”.
The Day of Music has been held annually since 2009 on the initiative of the German Music Council, since 2019 always on 21 June, and is sponsored by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Society for the Exploitation of Performance Rights. On Music Day, musicians and music enthusiasts celebrate the diversity of musical life throughout Germany, across all ages, cultures and genres.
