The International Day of the Girl Child is a day of action initiated by the United Nations that has taken place every year on 11 October since 2012.

The aim of the World Day of the Girl Child is to draw attention to the difficult situation of girls in many countries of the world. Accompanying campaigns aim to show ways to improve the situation. Demands include: targeted support for girls and young women through education; combating forced marriage; equal rights in all areas of life; consistent implementation of anti-discrimination laws; no tolerance for violence against girls and young women in the name of tradition or culture.
