The International Day of the Girl is a United Nations-initiated day of action that has been taking place every year since October 11, 2012.

The International Day of the Girl aims to draw attention to the difficult situation of girls in many countries around the world. Accompanying campaigns should show ways to improve the situation. Demands include: targeted promotion of girls and young women through education; Combating forced marriage; Equal rights in all areas of life; consistent implementation of anti-discrimination laws; no tolerance for violence against girls and young women in the name of tradition or culture.
